Designed
to be a true long range cruising vessel, the Meridian 480 design focuses
on comfort at sea for the whole crew and miserly fuel usage. The 480 hull
form was developed in the towing tank of the Australian Maritime College.
It proved to be one of the most efficient hull forms tested to date at
that facility. The highly efficient bows significantly reduce climbing
spray and minimise slamming, improving both performance and comfort in
a head sea. The aft hull tunnel configuration provides both grounding
protection for the prop and rudder as well as lowering the trim angle
to a near negligible 1.5 degrees.
